MADRID STUDENT VISA OPTIONS

This Madrid Student Visa Option Includes:

Madrid TEFL Course plus 1-year Student Visa offered through Universidad Europea del Atlantico.*

7 Months of Part-Time Spanish Classes (3 hours per week) – Students will receive 3 hours of part-time classes per week for 7 months in order to keep your Spanish progressing throughout your time in Spain.

4 Weeks of Intensive Spanish Classes and Cultural Activities – Once participants have completed their two weeks of teaching practices, they will be able to begin Spanish classes. Students will be given a level test and placed in a class that suits his/her needs. Classes are from 9am – 1pm or 1:30pm to 5:30pm for 20 hours per week.

6 months of Ongoing Professional Development Leading to an Advanced Certificate in TEFL. This is mandatory for those wishing to renew their visa for a second year.

Evaluation with Teaching Supervisor – As this is a university course, an assessment will be conducted of your paid teaching placement. This can be a visit from a team member, your boss or supervisor. The evaluation is given to ensure you are meeting all of your teaching requirements and also that the school is meeting their requirements as an employer.

Cultural Activities - Cooking classes, dance classes, visits to museums, and conversation workshops are just a few of the activities you can participate in to experience and gain insight into Spanish culture and history.

Premium CV/Resume Service that connects you with over 300 schools - Upon your arrival, we will schedule a meeting with you to go through your CV/resume and make any needed edits. From there, we will send it out to our partner’s premier school and academy list.

Pre and Post Arrival Assistance - Includes organizing accommodations, setting up a bank account, acquiring a cell phone, etc. Upon arrival, a Trainee Support Coordinator will sit down with you about how to obtain your NIE (foreign identification card). They will go through a step by step list of what needs to be done. You will receive a packet of legal documents that must be filled out then presented to the Ministry of Foreigners Department.

*The Advanced TEFL Course: Students will also have the opportunity to complete an Advanced Certificate in TEFL which includes:

• Young Learners in the ESL Classroom
• Teaching Business English
• Pronunciation and Phonetics for Spanish Speakers
• Advanced Grammar for ESL Teachers
• New Methodologies in the ESL Classroom
• Exams & Assessment in ESL

*Only available to teachers with a four-year degree. 

Total cost: 3,615 Euros (approximately $3,989 USD).

• Deposit: Approximately 815 Euros ($900 USD paid to International TEFL Academy).
• Remaining Balance: 2800 Euros (paid to TtMadrid at least 30 days in advance of your arrival in Madrid. The balance must be paid in full in order to begin the student visa process).

The total cost for this option does not include any visa fees. All visa fees must be paid by the student to the consulate directly. Visa fee for Americans is approximately $160 USD.

Housing & Accommodation - Students will work with an accommodation advisor to find temporary or permanent housing in Madrid.

Who can apply for the program?

1. Applicants generally need to be over 21 but also need to possess a bachelor's degree. Non-native English speakers are also considered on a case-by-case basis and will be required to write an essay and participate in a phone interview.
2. International TEFL Academy graduates who have successfully completed his or her TEFL Certification course and wishes to live and teach English legally in Madrid, Spain and study Spanish for at least one year on a student visa.

When should I apply for the program?

You should apply for the program at least 4-5 months before you want to be in Madrid. You will also need to be in your home country to go to the Spanish Embassy or Consulate, i.e, if you are an American, you need to be in the U.S. when applying.

The student visa process can be lengthy so you want to be sure to give yourself enough time. Make sure to arrange an appointment with the Spanish Embassy or Consulate no less than 6 weeks and no more than 12 weeks before your intended arrival.

Induction Day –The program start date, will be a mandatory program orientation that includes information on specific teaching skills, grammar revision, lesson planning, classroom management, as well as an introduction to living and working in Madrid.

6 Observed Teaching Practices at the Center – Following the induction day, participants begin two weeks of lesson planning and feedback. You will be giving English classes to adults with levels from beginner to advanced in a 1-to-1 or group classroom setting. You will receive lesson-planning assistance prior to your classes as well as feedback directly after each teaching practice. This is completed during your first two weeks in Madrid.
